I reside in Maine, but I lived and worked in northern California for over 27 years, with more than a dozen years spent working in the computer industry in Silicon Valley — from the “desktop wars,” through the “dot-com bubble” (and “bust”) — until the dissolution of a website partnership in 2000. My experiences there were split roughly equally between hardware and software manufacturing, with work spanning virtually all of the major architectures, platforms and technologies of the day (please see my bio to learn more.) I then took a sorely needed sabbatical from the industry and relocated my family to Maine* — a move I’ve described as traveling about as far east and north as one can possibly travel from Silicon Valley while still remaining in the contiguous “lower 48” United States. The move proved to be a very welcome change, both for my family as well as for myself, professionally.

I have always been self-directed by nature and my focus tends to gravitate in accordance with my client’s requirements, as well as with industry trends and my own professional interests. I am extremely fortunate to be able to work in this manner due to the solid foundation in electronics engineering technologies and mathematics that I obtained while attending Heald Engineering College in San Francisco. This was definitely a seminal period in my life. It was at Heald where I discovered my aptitude for the essential language of engineering and business — mathematics.

If you can imagine discovering this while having the opportunity to embark on a new career in tech and business at that time, at that place, I’m sure you can understand how the word “exhilarating” might encapsulate it. But that was such a long time ago! I have since become a seasoned Linux systems administrator and web developer with over two decades of hands-on experience managing websites and related services.
